From sourdough bread, pasta crisps, baked feta cheese pasta to homemade quesadillas, 2021 has been a year of culinary trends. And before it was the focaccia garden.

Social media can be a great platform for those who love to cook, eat, and learn more about food. Not to mention the hacks. All of these recipes have proven – hashtag after hashtag – that there are a few quick ways to cook a dish. However, times can change and some recipes may be swallowed up by the internet before they can resurface – rest in peace, dalgona coffee. You are deeply mourned.

So how many of this year’s trends will arrive through 2022?

All cheese and pasta lovers apparently swear by this dish. The Italians? Not really. A quick and easy way to whip up a meal in minutes, the baked feta cheese pasta trend has been an absolute hit. One, because that gives you a full bowl. Second, because the dish is prepared in a large baking sheet, so you don’t have to worry about washing too many utensils. It was worth the hype after all. Thanks, MacKenzie Smith, for posting this on TikTok.

However, with as much praise as the dish received, it also received as much negative feedback, claiming that it could be unhealthy to consume in the long run due to the amount of cheese used. Here is our attempt to do it at home.

Nature’s cereals

Breakfast was one for the books, as this hack was more than just a trend. People wanted to be healthy as much as they wanted to eat nature’s grain. Several social media users made bowls of “nature’s cereal” by first combining blueberries, blackberries and pomegranate seeds in a wooden bowl. However, the best part of this dish is at the end, when you pour coconut water over it, submerging the berries. The irony of this dish is that it’s not about cereal, it’s just a bowl of healthy fruit.

The verdict: it doesn’t look like he can survive until 2022.

The Home Quesadilla Folding Hack

One of the easiest ways to make a delicious wrap, if you ask us! The trend became popular after TikTok user Samira Kazan or @alphafoodie decided to introduce an ingeniously layered quesadilla, all made with a few ingredients placed on a large burrito-sized tortilla. First, you need to cut a slit from the bottom to the center and then add complementary ingredients to each of the four quarters of your tortilla. So, something on the lines of cheese, meat, vegetables, drizzled with sauce. This is then folded into four quarters, starting with the cut edge. Plus, grilling it makes it so much better!

If you’ve been following our food stories, you know which trends have made you hungry. But was the frozen honey challenge worth it? Maybe right at the start, especially because “the algorithm” – a faceless internet deity to many, could increase views, likes, followers… traffic. However, that brain didn’t quite agree this year, mostly because it comes with so many health issues. Rendezvous on the other side, with dalgona coffee it’s okay….

The verdict: Certainly not!

TikTok food for everyone

Recently, TikTok announced plans to install 1,000 kitchens by next year. What will the food be served? These viral trends, of course. The social media platform revealed plans to open nearly 300 restaurants to deliver feta cheese pasta and corn ribs across the United States.

However, the food prepared will go through “ghost” kitchens. A total of 300 TikTok restaurant locations are planned for March 2022, and 1,000 are expected by the end of the year. This initiative was launched by the company to reinvest its funds with the culinary content creators and culinary talents of the platform, especially since these trends have kept viewers hooked during the pandemic that began in 2019.

#FoodTok – a food-related label continues to be one of the most popular segments of the mobile app, with a low of 11.6 billion views as of December of this year. While more information has yet to be released by the social media platform, several users have expressed their joy for the same.
