These KFC recipes turn leftover fried chicken into delicious dishes, including ramen

With the proliferation of takeout and people spending more time at home, we’ve seen big brands come up with new ways to enjoy their food. Nissin’s Cup Noodles, for example, posted recipes teaching us how to turn their beloved instant ramen into okonomiyaki and chawanmushi. Now, KFC is following suit with a slew of recipes recommending new alternative ways to enjoy Colonel’s Secret Recipe Fried Chicken.

We don’t think these recipes are for that KFC fried chicken you just bought – because why would anyone buy fast food just to cook it again? These recommendations are for leftovers. So there is no longer any reason to eat cold fried chicken in the fridge from last night. These recipes, available on the KFC Japan websitewill show you how to turn leftover chicken into hearty meals like ramen and sweet and sour chicken.

As the recipes are in Japanese, we have translated two of our favorites here for you.

KFC Sweet and Sour Chicken (for two people)

3 pieces of crispy chicken
1/2 onion
1/3 carrot
1 green pepper
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of soy sauce
1 teaspoon potato starch
3 tablespoons of water

Cut your vegetables into bite-size pieces and steam the carrots in a 600 watt microwave for one minute. Next, divide each of the chicken strips into three pieces.

Pour the oil into the frying pan, set the heat to medium and toss in your onions and carrots. Once cooked through, add the remaining ingredients including the green pepper, chicken, and sauce. Sauté for a minute or two until the sauce thickens. Serve with white rice.

KFC Chicken Ramen (for one person)

1 piece of original recipe chicken
Bones of 3 pieces of original recipe chicken
3 cups of water
5cm x 5cm kombu seaweed
5 cm green leek
1 tablespoon ginger peel
1/3 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of soy sauce
1 package of ramen noodles
1 kujo negi (green onion)

Running out of chicken? Don’t worry, you can still cook a delicious meal with the bones. Remove the meat from the chicken and heat it in the microwave. In a large saucepan, pour three cups of water and add the kombu, leek, ginger skin and chicken bones.

Simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes and strain the ingredients. Add salt and soy sauce to the pan to complete your homemade chicken soup.

In another pot, boil a packet of ramen noodles. Once cooked, transfer the noodles to a bowl and pour the chicken soup over it. Top your noodles with chicken pieces, kujo negi slices and voila – you have KFC Chicken Broth Ramen.
