It’s that time of year when just about every restaurant has some sort of festive menu.
For the most part, it’s brie, cranberries, and as much bacon as humanly possible.
But at YO! it’s a little different, taking inspiration from the Japanese tradition of having KFC for Christmas – this restaurant chain decided to do something else.
Their Christmas menu features pieces of fried chicken (and for those who don’t eat meat, there’s a vegetarian option too!
I headed over to my local YO! but you don’t have to leave the house to indulge in the food – they are available to deliver to your door!
I tried two different things from the menu, and one of them was actually quite nice.
They O! Chirstmas Sando is quite large and costs £ 8.95 which is one of the more expensive items on the menu.
When it arrived I was a little intimidated, coming with a pot of sauce, the sandwich is huge and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to put it all in my mouth.
A piece of breaded chicken is served on white bread with a healthy serving of coleslaw and two hash browns – you get two as part of the order.
The sandwich is pinned with a toothpick holding an extra piece of fried chicken.
That’s more than enough to fill me up, with the hash browns keeping me from needing fries on the side (even though YO’s fries are pretty good).
I thought it was actually really delicious which surprised me as I’m not normally the type to eat sandwiches that I have to pour anything over.
I would actually do it again and recommend it if you want something that isn’t covered in cranberries this Christmas.
Now, I really haven’t enjoyed the VJFC bucket.
I would say the problem was the chicken style bites more than anything, they just don’t taste very good.
Based on the sandwich, I imagine the classic bucket would be much better.
Chicken-style pieces are served on a bed of fries, with plenty of coleslaw on the side and two dips.
I was not at all a big fan and I would not take it again.
