Food Network chef Jet Tila is coming to the University of Texas at Arlington to create a special barbecue booth and free interactive teaching kitchens.
Tila’s Thai Fusion BBQ will be held at the Central Library Mall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 5. The teaching kitchens will be at the Connection Café of the University Centre. The UTA visit is the result of a collaboration with the UTA Maverick Dining team, which is managed by Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services.
“It’s such a great opportunity for our residents and students to meet and interact with a Food Network star chef right here on our campus,” said Mari Duncan, Director of Residence Life at UT Arlington. “It will be a memory they will keep for years to come.”
Stephanie Edgett, Assistant Director of Contract Management at UT Arlington, said, “It’s really exciting that Chef Jet is partnering with Maverick Dining to bring a unique and exclusive experience to our students and our campus.
Tila will bring Thai fusion to Tre’s BBQ, a pop-up booth created by the culinary team at Maverick Dining that is named after Maverick Dining chef Austin “Tre” Banks. The pop-up concept was launched in March 2021 and has steadily grown in popularity on campus. The menu features Texas-style barbecue staples, all made on site.
The campus tour, sponsored by Pepsi, will offer communities across UT Arlington and the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area the experience of meeting and tasting dishes created by a Food Network celebrity chef. Those who participate in the educational kitchens will learn and cook alongside Tila. Autographed copies of her latest cookbook will be available to continue the cooking experience at home.
“Our team’s goal is to consistently deliver innovation that our students and guests can truly taste,” said Sean Armstrong, Resident District Manager, Maverick Dining. “Our unique partnership with Chef Jet is such a benefit to Maverick Country. We are delighted to welcome him to the Connection Café and Tre’s BBQ!
