Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – Elite Asian athletes will be invited to compete in 2023 Vietnam International Half Marathon on January 1, 2023 in Hanoi.
The tournament, organized by the Vietnam athletics federation in cooperation with the Municipal People’s Committee, will be the first such international standard event in Vietnam. It will be managed by Vietnamese referees and supervised by officials from the Asian Athletics Association.
It will be added to the federation’s annual competition system in 2023 and will be part of the city’s New Year celebrations.
Athletes, both elite and amateur, will compete in three categories of 5 km, 10 km and half marathon (21.0975 km).
The Vietnamese federation will send invitations to marathon powerhouses in Asia, including Japan, the Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei. Additionally, Southeast Asian athletes who have competed and won medals at the SEA Regional Games will also be invited to the race.
Local participants, professionals and amateurs, are all welcome.
Organizers said athletes from Africa and other countries where the marathon has developed strongly will also be invited to ensure the international standards and quality of the tournament.
The guest runners will be announced next month.
A total prize money of 500 million VND (20,100 USD) will be awarded to the winners.
Participants will also watch a dance and music performance on New Year’s Eve and participate in a countdown party at Hoan Kiem Lake on December 31, 2022.
