Cracker Barrel fans are outraged by new meatless sausage menu item

Cracker Barrel is in hot water over its latest addition to the menu.

On Monday, the unassuming Southern-style chain restaurant caused a stir after announcement on facebook that he now wears “Impossible Sausage”, a plant-based meat substitute.

Breakfast lovers now have the option of customizing their plate with plant-based protein instead of traditional bacon or smoked sausage.

The new offering – an addition to its Build Your Own Breakfast menu – has outraged many fans who have expressed their disdain for the restaurant, known for its comfort food, boldly jumping into the world of meatless options.

“Discover new meat frontiers,” Cracker Barrel wrote in his post. “Discover the standout flavor of Plant-Based Impossible™ Sausage the next time you create your own breakfast.”

Soon after, chaos ensued on the social platform with hundreds of comments.

“You kidding me? Who do you think your customer base is?” one Facebook user wrote.

“Never try to push that shit my way. Stick to the basics that made your franchise a success,” added another Facebook user.

A Facebook user added: “If I wanted a salad…I would actually order a salad…stop with the plant based ‘meat’ crap.

In June, Cracker Barrel Announced the new twist on its all-day homemade breakfast options. The company said an updated menu format and new selections are on the horizon, like grilled chicken with maple bacon and cheese-stuffed pancakes.

The Tennessee-based chain also noted that adding plant-based protein to its menu is a first in more than 50 years of existence.

The change comes “at a time when more than ever, consumers are looking for plant-based options that are better for them,” the company said on its website.

Breakfast lovers also called out the company on Twitter. One user’s post, in particular, went viral with over 8,000 retweets and over 115,000 likes.

“Everyone has a normal one on the Cracker Barrel Facebook page,” the user tweeted. “It’s also funny to see these are the same people shouting that companies can make their own decisions, but here they’re going crazy because they’re doing exactly that.”

Despite the backlash over the new addition, some fans have rallied in defense of the restaurant and its new trajectory.

“For anyone saying this, it’s stupid. It’s pretty good for those of us who have kidney problems and need to follow plant-based diets,” one Facebook user wrote.

Another Facebook user said, “If you don’t want it, don’t order it. As simple as that.”

With its latest meatless addition, Cracker Barrel now joins a host of popular restaurant chains that have embraced plant-based dishes, including Burger King, Dunkin’ and Carl’s Jr.
