Celebrate Halloween at Ikea Japan with their spooky special menu

Tis the season to eat lots of spooky treats!

Now that it’s September, the countdown to Halloween has begun. It also means the arrival of Ikea Japan’The annual Halloween fair, where a variety of spooky but delicious items are on sale in stores across Tokyo.

This year sees the return of some favorites from previous years, with a few new items to get shoppers in the mood for the spooky season. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer at Ikea’s restaurant!

One of the new menu items is the Halloween pancake (700 yen [US$4.86]). The crepe comes with chocolate sauce drizzled in the shape of a spider web, and on the crepe is a lot of whipped cream and berries, presumably representing blood that came out of the finger-shaped cookie on top of The crepe. Scary!

The classic from Ikea Japan Halloween donuts (220 yen) are back this year, with white chocolate eyeballs in the middle. More returning favorites include the Bat in a glass cake (350 yen) – a chocolate brownie and whipped cream with a berry sauce, with a bat cookie on top – and a slice of Pumpkin pie (390 yen). There is also the Black Chiffon Cake (250 yen), which gets its coloring because it is made with bamboo charcoal.

IKEA’s bistro space also has some spooky deals, like this one jet black ice. Just by looking at it, it’s hard to tell what flavor it is, but as it’s called the Soft cream with black strawberries (150 yen), we can only assume that there is a strawberry flavor hidden in the dark, creamy depths. Like the chiffon cake, this black ice cream is made from bamboo charcoal and is sure to mess your brain with every lick!

The return is also the ninja hot dog (300 yen), who is back after six years of absence. It was hugely popular on social media when it was last sold; not only is it uniquely black (again, thanks to the bamboo charcoal kneaded into the batter), but the hot dog itself is a huge 30 cm (11 inches) long, about twice the size of a regular hot dog. We don’t know how you would be as stealthy as a ninja with such a length of meat, but we’re glad he’s back anyway!

Much like how different houses give out different treats on Halloween, some of Ikea’s spooky candies are only available at specific stores.
● Halloween Pancake: only available at Shibuya and Harajuku branches
● Halloween donuts: available in all branches
● Bat in a Glass Cake: available in Shibuya only
● Pumpkin Pie: Available in Shibuya and Shinjuku only
● Black Chiffon Cake: Available in stores in Tokyo outside the city center only

All items should be on sale by October 31, but with the added condition of while supplies last, so be sure to get them while you still can!
