BURGER KING launches vegan nuggets, a first for UK fast food chains.
The new meatless menu item will be available nationwide starting tomorrow, January 5, and foodies can purchase them in restaurants or order them for delivery.
The fast food giant has teamed up with The Vegetarian Butcher to create the alternative to meat certified 100% vegan by the Vegan Society.
The product is made from soy and vegetable protein and mimics the taste and texture of meat.
From tomorrow you can buy six nuggets for £ 3.29, nine pieces for £ 3.99 or 20 for £ 4.99.
Prices may vary depending on location, however.
The golden treats are another addition to Burger King’s vegan and vegan menu.
It has already launched the plant-based Rebel Whopper burger in January 2020 and the Vegan Royale burger in April 2021.
But the plant-based Whopper was cooked on the same grill as the meat, which meant it wasn’t suitable for vegans, only flexitarians or meaty minimalists.
The new vegan nuggets, however, will avoid cross-contamination issues and are suitable for all meatless diets.
The new menu addition comes as Burger King pledges to make its menu 50% meat-free by 2030 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41%.
Burger King isn’t the only one rolling out a new plant-based option this month.
Asian food chain Wagamama has already made 50% of its menu vegan and today added vegan fish and chips.
The new Tempura F-ish and Bang Bang Yaki-imo dish is a Japanese-inspired take on the British classic, fish and chips.
Domino’s is also set to expand its vegan line from today and has announced the launch of its new vegan pizza, PepperoNAY.
Subway is also jumping on the vegan bandwagon, and they’re adding two new options to their plant-based menu.
The first is the Tastes Like Chicken Tikka Sub, a new take on the spices of the original TLC inspired by roast chicken.
The second is the Tastes Like Steak Sub – a brand new menu option tested in 350 stores during Veganuary.
Last year McDonalds launched their long-awaited McPlant burger, while Greggs introduced vegan festive baking on their Christmas menu to join their beloved vegan sausage roll.
