Sushi has become known as something that can be totally transformed into a whole new dish using the same ingredients. From sushi burrito to sushi pizza to a classic sushi bowl, there are many ways to combine all of our favorite dishes ingredients for sushi for a mouth full of indulgence. Now we have something new to add to the list of different ways to make sushi, and it’s definitely something you’ve seen all over your feed.

The cook sushi the trend takes ICT Tac by storm with countless recipes popping up. Everyone wants to share their variation of the dish and each of them is appetizing and tempting. It’s a dish that’s been around for a while, but has recently taken off on social media, and for the most part no one seems disappointed with the final product. Just look at this recipe from TikToker and Recipe Creator @gaming_foodie, who goes by the name Alissa, which went viral last month. The end product is crunchy and flavorful and everything you want in a giant bite of sushi.

Why is it called “sushi cooking”?

First, let’s start with what sushi is: a Japanese dish consisting mainly of rice, usually raw seafood and vegetables like Lawyer and cucumber. Some of the most popular sushi rolls include the California roll, which is Kani sushi (meaning it has imitation crab), spicy tuna, Salmon rolls or a rainbow roll, consisting of crab, tuna, salmon, yellowtail and snapper.

A sushi bake takes two popular types of seafood used in sushi – crab and salmon – and mixes the two together to create something similar to a California roll. What makes a cooked sushi so different from your normal rolls is the fact that it is made in a pan flat and, as the name suggests, baked. What makes it unique from other sushi variations is the fact that all the ingredients are layered and then cooked, while most sushi is left raw. The hot dish is a bit of a change from the normal sushi rolls, bowls and burritos you might find in a restaurant, and we’re here for it!

How to make sushi in the oven

Although the videos you see appearing on your FYP may seem a little intimidating, there is nothing to be afraid of performing the actual dish. It’s actually a somewhat simple dish with very few ingredients. Plus, who doesn’t love a meal you just put in the oven and don’t have to worry about for a few minutes? We certainly do.

  1. Start by cooking your rice. You can even make it ahead of time (or buy ready-cooked sushi rice from a restaurant) and mix the cooked rice with rice vinegar and set it aside.
  2. Next, you want to season your salmon. We recommend garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.
  3. Then cook the fish as you see fit: in the oven, lightly seared in a frying pan or air fryer.
  4. Once that’s done, grate your salmon and imitation crab together and add cream cheese, Japanese mayonnaise and sriracha.
  5. Start layering your casserole with the rice as the bottom layer, then the shredded seaweed or furikake, then the seafood mixture last.

How long to cook a sushi bake

You want to bake your sushi in the oven at 380 degrees F for about 10-15 minutes. Ideally, you’re looking for a bit of crispiness on top to know it’s ready.

Then take it out of the oven, add more sriracha sauce and spicy mayonnaise (or one or the other if you can’t stand spice well), add some green onions and you’re done!

The end product is best eaten with seaweed, cucumber and avocado, to give each bite extra textures and flavors. Feel free to add whatever other toppings you like with your sushi!
